Google Analytics actions don't require an integration
Unlike with many of our other actions, where access to data is authenticated server-side, our Google Analytics actions authenticate each user individually by requiring them to log in to an authorised Google account in their browser directly. Therefore, you don't need to add an integration for Google Analytics actions – if a user has the relevant permissions for their Google account they will be able to access your interfaces.
To grant access to the content of your Google Analytics interfaces they must have the relevant permissions to access the GA4 properties that you've configured your Links for. To do this, open your Google Analytics account and access the relevant property, click Admin (in the bottom left corner), in the Property settings click Property access management and make sure the relevant users have been added.
When visiting a Link that you've configured for this property, users will be able to access the interface having logged into the Google account associated with the user you've added.
Action Links has 'read only' access to your Google Analytics accounts, which allows us to pull your data into any dashboard interface Links you create, but not to make any changes to the data, your account or property settings.
The authentication process gives Action Links limited access to your Google account using the OAuth 2.0 authorisation protocol. This is the industry standard for securely authorising one system's access to another system. In simple terms, when you press the Continue button in the Google window, Google securely sends us a 'token' (from its server to our server) that we can then use to make requests to your Google account under the limited permissions you've authorised – in this case, 'read only' access to your Google Analytics accounts.
The 'token' is a kind of password that we store securely in our database that we can use to authenticate with Google and access your account under the permissions you've granted us.
